Chris McMahon

C hristopher Sean McMahon was born in Chicago's Uptown in 1966. He grew up in the Detroit suburbs, where his early involvement with photography entailed hanging around the local punk scene with a camera around his neck. Capturing images of bands and their shows led to some of his early work being published in national music magazines such as Maximum Rock & Roll and Alternative Press. He honed his craft at Michigan State University under the tutelage of famed Cream Magazine photographer Peter Glen Dening.

After graduating from MSU, Chris took a shit job in Chicago actually going door to door hustling baby photos for Van Gogh Studios, as well as subsisting on freelance wedding, bar mitzvah, and anniversary photography. For the last few years, Chris has held a lucrative day job. At night he takes photos of less-than-famous poets and performers for the Unofficial Soup Kitchen. The images in this collection have nothing whatsoever to do with any of this. They speak for themselves.

Chris is working on a coffee table book of photography to be published by USK Press for a Christmas 1997 release.
