Jason Pettus
Jason Pettus

Jason Pettus is a writer in Chicago. He is 27 years old. When it is very hot, he likes to lay down on the sidewalk and stare at the sun until his eyes hurt. This makes him happy. Jason has written a whole lot of short stories. They are mostly bitter. This makes him very happy. Jason has also written a novel, called "Dreaming of Laura Ingalls." It's very happy. But no one will publish it. And that makes him sad.

Jason is a regular on the Chicago open mike scene. He has also been featured at "Thax After Dark," Imperfect Fluids Gallery and on National Public Radio. This makes him happy. Since moving to Chicago, he has published a collection of short stories called "The Sweet Alice Sessions," a non-fiction project called "The Stewart Letters," and is compiling his new book of short fiction, called "Kathie Lee Gifford Likes to Fuck." He is also hard at work on his new novel, called Afterglow. It is happy, but it is also sad. It is what his mother likes to call "bittersweet." This makes him happy indeed. Jason's e-mail address is pettus@usk.org. If you want to make him really happy, write to him and say, "I'm a literary agent! And I want to read Afterglow!" Yay!

Jason attended the University of Missouri at Columbia. He studied fine art photography. He does not own a dog or a cat. He got his wallet stolen at the Democratic National Convention. He drinks more than he should, but less than his friends. All these things make him happy. He hardly ever has sex, and this makes him sad. He is approaching thirty, and this makes him... well, this makes him ambivalent. Jason likes to take a lot of speed when he's asked to write his own biography. Then everything in the world seems funny to him, even though it's probably not. And this makes him the happiest of all.
