Larry Winfield
Larry Winfield writes poems and the occasional short story and
produces short films. He didn't grow up wanting to be a writer.
He studied art and speech/theatre in high school and college.
Larry began writing seriously in 1982. In 1987, he published the first in a
series of chapbooks and he started reading regularly in the Chicago
poetry scene in 1990. He helped found the Annual Poetry Video
Festival in 1991. In 1992, he traveled to Europe as a member of the Urban
Metaphors Tour, reading in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Paris, and released
"City Shamans," an experimental poetry and music EP. In 1994, he formed
a "beta" version poetry band called Urbana Mesa with Carla Evonne
and Sanders Pate of Portrait of Strange.
