Joffre Stewart
Joffre Stewart is one year older than Allen Ginsberg. He regards himself as a state-wrecking wartax resister with membership in the War Resisters League and participation in the Chicago Area War Resisters Support Group.
Joffre is possibly the most read poet in Chicago who is not in significant anthologies. He had a host function for open poetry readings, off and on, from about 1959 to the mid-80's. He requires of editors that they "Print ALL: no cutting, deleting, 'editing'" as to avoid the shock of seeing some abortion with his name on it. Since the JFK assassination, the nonviolence of his writings is also informed by the data and logic of ConspIrAcy-Assassination Research and Theory. (Most of his writing has appeared as letters in the Bulletin of the Social Revolutionary Anarchist Federation.) He participates in writer workshops: Perspectivists; International Black Writers Conference; and workshop of the Organization of Black American Culture. He received First Prize in Poetry, College of Complexes, 1964. His book, Poems and Poetry, was published by the Every Now and Then Publishing Cooperative in 1982. He recently had a poem anthologized by The Peace Museum in Poetry for Peace. He received a B.A. from Roosevelt University in 1952.
