Puppet Meister

Behind gauze
small shadows
carved wooden
faces locked
in perpetual
expression.

Beneath gloves
fingers, twitch
sending life
down strings
made from
parts of
long dead cats.

Wooden lives
sometimes demand
recarving
reworking
and a retouch
with the paint brush.

Other times,
      thought the
      puppetmeister,
      require the
      consideration
      of scissors.

Behind gauze
cut strings
and fallen
wooden angels.
Beneath gloves
red trickle
and the fall
of more than
puppets.
