Unrequited Love Finds Irish Justice

Standing in the Irish misting
wearing his shark raincoat -
blue hood pulled up
white teeth all around his face
safely sheltered in red lining
with
eyeballs on top of his head
my five year old boy
and a drenched earth red collie - stray - fall in love.
Tail wagging, kisses on cheek,
his first true friend in Ireland, a furry one.
Large brown eyes of United States boy
meet large brown eyes of Irish dog
sparks ignite.
I brisk past - in motherhood trauma -
I can't find child-care
at a child abuse prevention conference and I'm missing it!
"Mom!" My boy calls out, "I named him Ashley!"
I think of the girl named Ashley at home
who won't give him a kind "Hello"
and I smile.
Unrequited love gets Irish justice!
The boy and dog look at me
expectantly.
Pure sunshine in steady rain
framed by vivid green grass and clover.
The dogs thumping tail pounds joy
and boy's eyes ballet with light.
A perfect moment captured
under Bugs Bunny umbrella.
