Sterling Silver Friend

The precious sterling silver they'd begun with -
moment by moment -
friends party meeting
Poetry
Laughter
he hunted her down for her phone number
the business card she tucked under her necklace-
he pulled out with his teeth
Impetuous passion of promise
they snuck out together
to a party unfurled
kisses in a cab
kisses in a corner
kisses, kisses - Christ! Those kisses
kisses on her hand
kisses on her neck
breasts
a Swan's breast slighting on dawn-touched water
and pulled away by the shot gun of her unknowing this
stranger 6 hours ago
too friendly now
tarnished by lack of use
this sterling silver friendship
A forgotten moment giddy with flirtation
A butter dish
stuffed into the cupboard
that lies forgotten
in a sea
of dust.
